Celebrating Community Spirit in St. Michael

St. Michael, Minnesota, is a community rich in events and organizations that bring residents together, fostering a strong sense of belonging and shared purpose. These gatherings and groups play a pivotal role in enhancing the quality of life for all who call this city home.

Annual Community Events

One of the highlights of the year is the St. Michael Daze & Knights Festival, a family-friendly celebration held each August at Town Center Park. The festival features a variety of activities, including a 5K race, youth color run, parade, car show, fireworks, inflatables, and live music, offering something for everyone while supporting local organizations.

As winter approaches, residents look forward to WinterFest, an event that began in 2012 and was reimagined in 2021. Held on the first Saturday in December at St. Michael City Hall and Town Center Park, WinterFest includes a tree lighting ceremony, various activities, and festive fun for all ages. The event is organized by the St. Michael Lions Club in collaboration with the City of St. Michael, DiscoverSTMA, and the St. Michael-Albertville Rotary Club.

Community Organizations

Several organizations contribute significantly to the community’s vibrancy. The St. Michael-Albertville Rotary Club embodies the motto “Service Above Self,” meeting most Tuesdays at Liberty Restaurant to plan and execute various service projects that benefit the local area.

The STMA Women of Today, chartered in March 1984, focuses on service, growth, and friendship. They provide opportunities for members to contribute to the community by raising funds for worthy causes, offering services or education to benefit community members, and developing personal skills and talents.

Additionally, the Wright County Area United Way supports non-profit organizations in the community that provide services and programs strengthening families, respecting diversity, supporting the elderly, promoting health, and nurturing children.

Local Businesses and Community Engagement

Local businesses also play a crucial role in fostering community spirit. Backhand Brew, for instance, offers indoor pickleball courts, a café, and a bar, creating a welcoming space for residents to gather, play, and socialize. Their offerings include open play, court reservations, leagues, events, and lessons, catering to players of all experience levels.

These events and organizations exemplify the strong community spirit in St. Michael, providing residents with numerous opportunities to connect, contribute, and celebrate together. They are a testament to the city’s commitment to fostering a vibrant and inclusive community for all.
